Bountiful is a wonderful place to live and raise a family, but we can, and should, make it better.
The more business growth and responsible development our city can attract, the more tax-dollars we keep as a city. The more tax-revenue we retain, the more money we have available to maintain roads, parks, a strong police force, and beautification projects ... all while keeping personal property taxes and fees low.
And that all translates into a better life for each of us.
From the first time my husband, Benjamin Becker, took me home (from BYU-Provo) to Bountiful to meet his family, I knew this city was a special place. There is an exemplary feeling of community identity, respect, and mutual cooperation that made me want to raise our family here. I was again impressed by Bountiful's community spirit, which was in full force during the clean-up of the December 2011 windstorm. I was proud to call Bountiful home.
While attending graduate school, and later teaching at San Francisco State University during the 2008 election, our family was involved in a grass-roots, door-to-door campaign. This experience taught me the importance of standing strong for values, family, and the democratic process - even when it is very unpopular. I learned that every person's voice matters, and each vote counts.
